About Book
This third edition has undergone significant revisions. Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, Diagnostic Tests and Procedures, Surgical Interventions, Invasive and Noninvasive Monitoring and Support, Pharmacology, and Cardiopulmonary Evaluation and Intervention are the same six sections. The six sections were retained since they facilitate the evolution of knowing the subject in order to conduct a full assessment and provide the most effective intervention.
However, the final portion was expanded to cover special population considerations, including paediatric cardiac difficulties and lymphedema. Two additional chapters have been included to satisfy practitioners' high need for this material and the fact that these Guiding practise patterns were not discussed in depth in the previous edition.
The changes you should observe include both large and minor modifications. All chapters have been rewritten and augmented with several illustrations and tables to aid the reader in visualising the text. On the Evolve website, which complements this work, there are additional figures, case studies, and resource materials. The quantity of clinical notes has been enhanced to assist physicians and students in comprehending particular clinical findings and relating them to the pathophysiology of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. Each chapter discusses the content in each chapter in relation to the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice and presents the practise patterns in tables that are specific to that chapter. Moreover, each chapter has been updated with new information, technology, and research.
Specific updates to each chapter should be marked. To assist the learner in relating pathophysiology to normal anatomy and physiology, substantial revisions were made to the first and second chapters, which describe anatomy and physiology. In addition, the developmental and maturational anatomy has been relocated to the paediatrics chapter (Chapter 20) to assist the student in comparing pathology to normal in this population. As indicated by the new title, Chapter 3, Ischemic Cardiovascular Diseases and Other Vascular Pathologies, has been revised. Information from across the book was reorganised and transferred here after being removed from certain chapters. In addition to ischemic disease, this chapter now includes information about hypertension, peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease, renal disease, and aortic aneurysm. Chapter 4, Cardiac Muscle Dysfunction and Failure, has been reorganised and updated to enhance the flow and comprehension of this crucial pathologic disease.
Owing to the complexity and amount of restrictive lung dysfunction diseases, numerous tables were added to Chapter 5 in order to segregate the material and aid the learner in locating important information quickly. Due to the increased relevance of this condition and the fact that COPD is the fourth biggest cause of mortality, Chapter 6 on Obstructive Lung Dysfunction has been updated and improved. Revisions to Chapter 7, Cardiopulmonary Consequences of Particular Disorders, emphasis information on obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome, in addition to cancer and neuromuscular diseases.
In Chapters 8, 9, 10, and 11, new technology and advances in diagnostic testing and surgical techniques were added. The transplantation advancements were described in Chapter 12, and Invasive and Noninvasive Monitoring and Life Support Equipment (Chapter 13) was changed to expand the information on ventilators and other monitoring equipment.
Cardiovascular Pharmacology (Chapter 14) and Pulmonary Pharmacology (Chapter 15) required updating due to improvements and changes in drugs as a result of advancements in health care and diagnostics; these chapters were evaluated by a superb pharmacist, Dr. Wolfgang Vogel.
Revisions were made to Chapter 16 (Examination and Assessment Processes), although the most revisions were made to the chapters that followed assessment. Acute care, pulmonary rehabilitation, and therapeutic therapies have all undergone extensive updating and review, as well as the addition of fresh clinical notes and several figures and tables.
Lymphedema and Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy were two excellent contributions to the third edition of Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy. And finally, the material concludes with a completely revised chapter on outcomes that provides excellent information for measuring improvement in the cardiopulmonary patient population.
When possible, case studies are used to illustrate the supplied subject. There are further case studies available on Evolve.
