Features of Atlas of the Diabetic Foot - 3rd Ed PDF free download:
With this third edition, Nicholas Katsilambros has passed he responsibility for the continuation of this work to the present editors. We accepted the challenge with enthusiasm, subject to his willingness to continue as authors.
Despite advances in medicine, diabetic foot problems continue to be a major concern of every society in the world, even those with the best healthcare systems. As in the previous editions, the purpose of this publication is to offer the knowledge of understanding the basic mechanisms that lead to the appearance of ulcers, preventing and treating of diabetic foot problems by healthcare professionals aiming at reduction of amputations.
For this purpose, in addition to theoretical knowledge, we describe actual cases of patients with various foot problems, the diagnostic approach, differential diagnosis, and treatment. The initial chapters describe epidemiology, pathophysiology, and classification of diabetic foot ulcers. Importance is given to the diagnosis of the main risk factors for the diabetic foot, namely diabetic neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, and to the anatomic deformities of the lower extremities. One chapter is devoted to Charcot foot (neuro‐osteoarthropathy) and one chapter to infections. In the following chapters we describe methods of prevention and ulcer healing. In addition, developments in technology help to learn better and to acquire medical skills. In this edition we include five videos demonstrating the methods of examination for diabetic neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease and methods of callus removal and debridement as well as offloading, including the way total contact cast is constructed.
We trust that the new edition of this book will make a real contribution to the understanding of the diabetic foot problems and will help colleagues to better address them.
