Indeed, a growing body of experimental evidence indicates that probing below the epidermal surface is highly relevant to our understanding of the pathophysiology of a number of human cutaneous diseases. The pace of discoveries and advances related to the "Dermal Immune System" is already in high gear; nonetheless, the primary purpose for this multi-author book is to stimulate even greater and wider study of the immunobiology of skin, and try to accelerate advancements by presenting these developments to our colleagues both inside dermatology, as well as to those nondermatological scientists who have not previously focused on this most amazing, largest organ of the body — the skin.
